It gives users a consistent way to find support, learning resources and discussions without leaving their Totara site. > [!NOTE] > The menu is labelled **Totara support** to make clear that it links to product-level support and resources, rather than any community or support content owned by the organisation. ### Default menu items The Totara support menu includes the following links by default: - **Community** — opens the Totara Community, where users can access shared resources, discussions and peer learning. - **Totara Admin help** — provides access to administration support guides. - **What's new** — highlights new additions to the product so that users and administrators can plan ahead. > [!WARNING] > Note: On upgrade to Totara 20.3, if you opt in, administrators need to enable the Totara support menu and apply custom access rules to control who can see it. See [Configuring visibility by role](/totara-20/docs/totara-support-links#configuring-visibility-by-role) for guidance. These three links open in a new browser tab. The link URLs are hardcoded and cannot be edited directly. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-K6133YA4.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T10%3A28%3A00Z&se=2026-11-05T11%3A28%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=%2FonYus0%2FF9n34pvZI3FYaW0njYElc234q2q%2FYi8j8IA%3D) ### Behaviour by theme - When the site theme is **Inspire**, the Totara support menu always appears as the last item in the main navigation, and its links are shown in a dropdown. - When the site theme is **Ventura**, the Totara support menu appears as a regular main menu item. ### Configuring visibility by role A default set of roles is applied to control who can see the Totara support menu and its links. The site administrator can adjust these to suit the organisation's role structure. 1. Open the navigation settings via *Quick-access menu > Navigation > Main menu* (/totara/core/menu/index.php). 2. Locate the **Totara support** menu item. 3. Select the edit cog to access the settings. 4. Under **Visibility** select [**Use custom access rules**](/totara-20/docs/main-menu-custom-access-rule-settings) and then **Save changes**, you are then taken to the **Access** tab. 5. Select the access controls, the set visibility by restricting access by **role**, **audience** or **present value**. 6. Save the changes. > [!NOTE] > Access rules can be combined to give administrators flexibility over who sees the menu. Role-based visibility is intended to accommodate sites with different role structures, rather than being fixed to site administrators only. ### Using custom support links You can add your own support or community resource links to the **Totara Support** menu item. 1. Open *Quick-access menu > Navigation* *> Main menu* (/totara/core/menu/index.php) 2. You can keep the default links (**Totara Community**, **Admin help** and **What's new**), or select the eye icon to Hide/unhide the default links. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/image-Q8F3NM6N.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T10%3A28%3A00Z&se=2026-11-05T11%3A28%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=%2FonYus0%2FF9n34pvZI3FYaW0njYElc234q2q%2FYi8j8IA%3D) 3. To then add custom support links, select [**Add new menu item**](/totara-20/docs/add-a-main-menu-item) at the bottom of page. 4. Configure the [settings](/totara-20/docs/add-a-main-menu-item) to your preferences. 5. Click **Add**. > [!WARNING] > The three default links are hardcoded and their URLs cannot be edited. To use organisation-specific support links, the administrator must hide the default links and add separate custom menu items. ![Course badge](https://cdn.document360.io/a007399b-031e-436b-999a-528240e16f58/Images/Documentation/course-badge_dashboards-basic-theming(1).svg?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T10%3A28%3A00Z&se=2026-11-05T11%3A28%3A00Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=%2FonYus0%2FF9n34pvZI3FYaW0njYElc234q2q%2FYi8j8IA%3D) The Totara Academy has a whole course dedicated to using [Dashboards and basic theming](https://totara.community/course/view.php?id=950) in Totara.
