    Notification settings

    Article Summary

When you are creating a new notification you can configure the following settings.

    SettingDescriptionNotes
NameGive the notification a descriptive name.

The Name should indicate the purpose of the notification. For example, 'Course overdue first warning'. The name cannot be overridden in lower contexts.

RecipientUse the checkboxes to select which user(s) you want to receive the notification.Note that more than one notification can be configured for the same notification trigger with the same schedule but different recipients, allowing you to configure appropriate content for different recipients. You should make sure that the subject and body content will make sense when sent to all of the selected recipients.

Note that for performance activities, the selected notification recipients will only receive the notification for a specific performance activity if they are selected as an activity participant.
Include iCal attachmentTick to include an iCal attachment with the notification - this is helpful for date-related notifications. -
    Schedule

When the notification will be sent relative to the trigger event. Either when the trigger occurs or a number of days before or after the event.

It is not always possible to change the Schedule, and for some notifications you will only have one option. The options available here depend on what type of event the notification trigger relates to (pre-known date or action), and also the functionality provided by developer. The actual time that the notification is sent depends on how the cron and certain scheduled tasks are configured.
Delivery channelsWhen setting the delivery channels you can also decide to set Forced delivery.
Forced delivery makes a notification mandatory. This means it will be sent via the specified channels regardless of whether or not the notification is enabled by a recipient user. Even if a user disables notifications in their Notification preferences, they will still receive notifications via the channels listed here. For example, if a notification has Email listed in the Forced delivery column then the recipients will always be notified by email.
SubjectThe title of the notification e.g. the subject line of the email.

The Subject is used when sending notifications via all delivery channels. Care should be taken to ensure that it is suitable for the delivery channels supported by the site, i.e. the subject isn't too long for a given delivery channel. The subject can also include placeholders.

BodyThe main content of the notification. The Body is used when sending to delivery channels which support large amounts of content, such as emails or internal site notifications. Care should be taken to ensure that failure to deliver the content does not cause problems. You may want to use some other means to ensure delivery, such as forcing delivery to a channel which uses the body, or provide the body content elsewhere. You may wish to include placeholders here.
StatusDecide whether the notification is enabled by ticking the box. If the notification is enabled it will be sent in this context or any descendent context where the status has not been overridden.
