Drag and drop marker questions require Learners to place marker text onto a background image by dragging and dropping each marker.
To set up a drag and drop markers question, follow these steps:
- In the quiz activity, click Add, then select a new question.
- Select Drag and drop markers, then click Add.
- Give the question a name, then enter the question in the Question text field.
- Set the Default mark, i.e. how many marks the Learner will be awarded if they answer correctly.
- Click Choose a file or drag and drop a file to upload a background image.
- In the Markers section, enter the text for each marker and set how many times each marker can be placed. Add extra, non-applicable markers to increase the difficulty of the question.
- In the Drop zones section, assign a drop zone to each of the correct markers. Next, set the shape of each drop zone.
- Hover over the map in the Preview section to identify the coordinates you wish to use for each drop zone. Enter the appropriate coordinates in the Drop zones section, then refer back to the Preview image to check that each drop zone is placed in the correct position.
- Either enter feedback for correct, partially correct and incorrect answers in the Combined feedback section, or use the General feedback field.
- If required, configure the Multiple tries and Tags sections.
- Click Save changes.
Drop zone coordinates
After uploading a background image, you will be able to see grid lines and X and Y coordinates on your image. Each grid square is 10 x 10 px. How you set the coordinates will depend on the shape selected for each drop zone:
- Circle: centre_x, centre_y; radius
e.g.: 130, 100; 50 - Polygon: x1, y1; x2, y2; ...; xn, yn
e.g.: 220, 60; 300, 60; 220, 100 - Rectangle: left, top, width, height
e.g.: 320, 60; 80, 40
Multiple tries
Optionally set a score penalty for each incorrect try. Incorrect tries include the use of extra markers as well as markers placed in incorrect drop zones.
If a drag and drop markers question is used in a quiz set to use the Interactive with multiple tries question behaviour, marking is modified as follows when a penalty has been applied:
- The mark is reduced for each try by the penalty factor
- Allowance is made for when a correct choice is first chosen providing it remains chosen in subsequent tries
Three additional marking and multiple tries options are available (depending on the quiz question behaviour):
- Show the number of correct responses: Include a statement of how many choices are correct in the quiz question feedback
- State which markers are incorrectly placed: Include a list of markers which are incorrectly placed in the feedback
- Move incorrectly placed markers back to default start position below image: When Try again is clicked, incorrectly positioned labels are removed
