An assessment checklist is a criteria-based achievement path that can be attached to a skill proficiency level. It allows one or more raters, such as the learner, their manager, an appraiser or an assessor, to confirm completion of a defined set of checklist items.
To set up an assessment checklist, follow these steps:
Go to Quick-access menu > Skills (/totara/hierarchy/framework/index.php?prefix=competency).
Select the framework containing the skill to be configured.
Click the cog icon (
) for the skill for which you want to add a checklist.Select the Achievement paths tab.
From the Add an achievement path dropdown, select Criteria-based paths.
Next to the required proficiency level, click Add criteria group and select Assessment checklist.
Expand the Assessment checklist section, then click Add item to create a checklist item.
Enter a name for the checklist item.
Expand the checklist item to add an optional description, if required.
Add one or more raters responsible for completing the checklist item, selecting from Self, Manager, Appraiser or Assessor.
Repeat the process to add further checklist items as required.
Select whether all items must be completed, or specify the number of items required for completion.
Repeat these steps for other proficiency levels, if required.
Each proficiency level within a skill can have its own assessment checklist, allowing different completion criteria to be defined at each level.

Once configured, the assessment checklist is presented to each assigned rater, who marks individual items as completed. A checklist is considered complete when all items, or the specified minimum number of items, have been marked as Yes. When the checklist is complete, the learner is recognised as having achieved the associated proficiency level.
