Configure notification delivery channels

You can configure how notifications are sent by configuring the default delivery channels for a notification trigger event. These are the channels that will be used to send notifications to users, unless users customise their preferences. Examples of delivery channels are email notifications, notifications in the mobile app, or on the site's navigation bar. The available channels will depend on which message outputs have been installed and enabled for the site (Quick-access menu > Plugins > Message outputs > Manage message outputs).

It is recommended that you configure the default delivery channels for notification triggers at the site level first before configuring individual notifications, so that you can disable all instances of specific delivery channels if desired. Making a change to the defaults will affect all users who have not chosen to override the default settings, but will have no effect on users who have customised their preferences in relation to the specific notification trigger. Users can choose to reset their preferences back to the default settings, which will then track any changes made to the default delivery channels.

Follow these steps to configure which default delivery channels are used:

1. Navigate to Quick-access menu > Notifications.
2. Expand the section containing the notification triggers for which you want to configure default delivery channels.
3. Click the icon of three dots () for a notification, then select Edit delivery preferences.
4. Choose the delivery channels you want to use by default.
5. Click Save.

You can then configure the delivery channels for specific notifications as required.
