Enable and disable notification triggers

Article Summary

You can enable and disable the different notification triggers at different context levels. Disabling a trigger will disable all notifications in relation to that event in the context where the change is made, and that notification trigger won't be shown in lower contexts. For example, you could disable the Learner completed activity notification trigger within a course, which would prevent those notifications from being delivered, configured or even seen within all activities within that course.

To enable or disable notification triggers at the site level, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Quick-access menu > Notifications.
  2. Expand the feature for the notification triggers you wish to enable or disable (e.g. Seminar).
  3. Click the Enabled toggle to set whether each notification trigger is enabled () or disabled ().

You can also enable and disable triggers at lower context levels by navigating to that specific feature's notifications in step 1.

Note that typically notification triggers should be left enabled, and individual notifications should instead be disabled or deleted as required. You may want to disable specific notification triggers entirely in the following situations:

  • Where it doesn't ever make sense to use that notification trigger on your site. For example, if a feature is never used on a site, then the notification trigger could be disabled to simplify the list of available notification triggers.
  • Where a particular learning item or context is used in a specific way which makes a specific notification trigger irrelevant.
  • Where it is a company policy to never send a notification in relation to a particular event, perhaps due to privacy considerations.
