The Team skill proficiency block provides line managers and second line managers with a clear view of their team’s current skill levels. It allows managers to identify skills gaps, recognise strengths, and efficiently rate their team's skills where needed. The block can be added to dashboards to give quick, lightweight access to team capability information, supporting accountability for skills development across the organisation. Managers can view all user assignments for each skill to investigate who is (and isn't) contributing to the skill's proficiency rating.
Adding the block
To add a Team skill proficiency block to a dashboard or front page, follow these steps:
Go to your home page and either:
Click Customise this page.
Click Manage dashboards, select the dashboard and click Blocks editing on.
Go to Quick-access menu > Navigation > Dashboards > (totara/dashboard/manage.php) click on the name of the dashboard to which you want to add a block, and click Blocks editing on.
On the page or dashboard, select the plus icon (
) in an available block region (these are indicated by a rectangle with a dotted outline).Select Team skill proficiency from the list, either by scrolling down the list of available blocks or by entering the name of the block in the Search field.
Once the block has been added, click the cog icon (
) to configure the block.
Custom block settings
In addition to the standard or common block settings, there are a number of configurable Custom block settings for the Team skill proficiency block.
Setting | Description |

Whose skills are visible to managers | Select which users’ skills are visible to the manager when they view this block:

Exclude self-assigned skills | Exclude skills which have been self-assigned. |
Exclude directly assigned skills | Exclude any skills manually assigned by managers, appraisers or others with permission to assign skills. |
Note that when a skill level is updated, the change may not appear immediately in the Team skill proficiency block. Updates are processed by the system’s scheduled tasks, so managers may experience a short delay before the latest ratings are displayed.
