What are time to readiness taxonomies?

Prev Next

A time to readiness taxonomy is a Totara Skills feature that groups learners according to how quickly they are expected to achieve full proficiency for a position. Rather than simply indicating whether a learner is ready for a position, the taxonomy classifies readiness speed into bands, giving a clearer picture of workforce development timelines.

Each taxonomy defines day thresholds that determine whether a learner's readiness is classified as Fast, On-time, or Slow. For example, if Fast is set to 30 days and On-time is set to 60 days, learners are categorised as follows:

  • 0 to 30 days: Fast

  • 31 to 60 days: On-time

  • More than 60 days: Slow

Time to readiness taxonomies make readiness reporting easier to understand and compare across the organisation. They allow managers and administrators to assess not only whether learners are ready for a position, but also how quickly readiness is being achieved relative to expectations. This highlights workforce readiness risks and helps organisations plan development actions more effectively.

The taxonomy assigned to a position is used for reporting purposes in position insights.
