Certification status block improvements
The Certifications status block is no longer fixed, and can now be fully configured by administrators to suit different reporting needs. Multiple filters and data sources can be applied to tailor exactly what data the block displays, and dashboards can now include multiple instances of the block side by side to provide different views. This removes previous limitations and enables more meaningful, targeted compliance insights.
Course status block
A new Course status block gives managers and compliance-focused roles a visual overview of course completion across organisational units, showing at a glance who has completed a required course, who is in progress, and who has not yet started, without needing to build a custom report. The block can be filtered by course, category, or audience, includes an optional compliance target line for reference, and supports drill-down into detailed user data by organisation. From Totara 20.3, courses within the block can be sorted by completion percentage or course name. Visibility is controlled through capabilities, so managers see only the data for people they're permitted to view, while site administrators, L&D managers, and executives can see course status data across the whole site.
Learner Certification path completion and history improvements
From Totara 20.2, Certification completion history is recorded when a learner completes a Certification path, rather than when the recertification window opens. This builds on functionality introduced in Totara 20, adding UI improvements as a continuation of that direction. Learners now get a complete, transparent view of their certification journey across Current, Upcoming, and Completed learning, with new expandable components allowing them to explore structure and course-level detail without friction. Together, these changes improve learner confidence in progression and strengthen compliance by making it clear what has been completed and what's coming next.
