Link a skill to a position

Once you have set up position items you can link skills to them.

To link skills to a position, follow these steps:

1. Go to Quick-access menu > Positions.

2. Click Manage positions.

3. Click the name of the position framework containing the position(s) you want to use.

4. Click the name of the position item to which you want to assign skills.

5. Click Link skills.

6. If you have more than one skill framework, select the framework from the dropdown menu and click the name of the skill to select.

7. The selected skills appear in the Current selection list on the right. Repeat step 6 until you have selected all of the required skills. Use the Delete button to remove a selected skill from the list.

8. Click Save to save the selected skills.

9. Set the Link type. This affects whether the skill is mandatory or optional. The default state is Optional.

10. You can remove a selected skill by clicking Delete.

11. Click Return to position framework when finished.

Skills linked to a position item can have two states:

• Mandatory: Mandatory courses must be completed by the Learner. When mandatory skills (and any linked courses) are automatically pulled into a learning plan the Learner is not able to delete them.

• Optional: Optional courses are suggested skills to help the Learner in their role. When optional skills (and any linked courses) are automatically pulled into a learning plan the Learner can delete them.

When the learning plan template is set to Automatically linked skills from position, skills linked to a Learner’s position automatically appear in their learning plan when they create one.
